I believe Wikipedia / Wikimedia has the opportunity to work with brands to allow them to market to their viewers. I’m not sure that this would necessarily result in Wikipedia becoming a “propaganda tool” as Brandon Harris asserts. Certainly we can come up with some creative way for Wikipedia participants, who universally enjoy products that come from brands, to hear from those brands on Wikipedia in a manner that is unoffensive. Certainly we can firewall the effect of revenue from the editorial control. Are we giving up? Why read your own obituary?
